- How do I locate the closest ATM?

- What do I do if the ATM kept my card or I forget my card in the ATM?
If the ATM keeps your card, it is pulled into the ATM after 20 seconds and kept in a secure location. Debit Cards or ATM Cards that are left in ATM machines are removed and destroyed so a replacement card must be ordered. There are a variety of options for requesting a replacement card:

- What are the fees for using an ATM?
Bank of America customers can withdraw cash with their Bank of America debit card or ATM card without a fee at over 18,000 Bank of America ATMs in the United States and at over 12,000 international ATMs operated by members of the Global ATM Alliance.
Withdrawals, deposits, transfers, payments and balance inquiries from ATMs at other financial institutions in the United States will be assessed a fee. You may also be charged a fee by the ATM operator or any network used. You may be charged a fee for a balance inquiry even if you do not complete a funds transfer. Other account fees may apply to the transaction such as an Excess Withdrawal fee for savings. - How do I set/change my preferences at the ATM?
You may set or change your preferences at the ATM once you enter your PIN. From the Select Transactions screen, select Other Options. Then, select one of the following preferences, following the prompts to complete your transaction:
- Account statements
- Change PIN, available at limited ATMs
- Set Fast Cash preferences
- Set language preferences
- Set receipt preferences
- How do I use an ATM safely?
- Always pay close attention to the ATM and your surroundings. Make sure you do automated banking in a public, well-lit location.
- Maintain an awareness of your surroundings throughout the entire transaction.
- Be wary of people trying to help you with ATM transactions. Bank representatives will have identification.
- Be aware of anyone sitting in a parked car nearby.
- Pay attention when leaving an ATM to make sure you are not being followed. If you are, drive immediately to a police or fire station, or to a crowded, well-lit location or business.
- Do not use an ATM that appears unusual looking or offers unfamiliar options.
- Do not allow people to look over your shoulder as you enter your PIN. Memorize your PIN; never write it on the back of your card.
- Do not re-enter your PIN if the ATM eats your card. Contact a bank official.
- Do not wear expensive jewelry or take other valuables to the ATM.
- Never count cash at the machine or in public. Wait until you are in the safety of your car or another secure place.
- When using a drive-up ATM, keep your engine running, your doors locked and leave enough room to maneuver between your car and the one ahead of you in the drive-up line.
- Deposit Image ATMs reduce the paperwork required prior to your arrival at the ATM. This will minimize the amount of time spent at the machine.
- Make sure you retain your transaction receipt. Do not throw the receipt away at the ATM site.
- Closely monitor your bank statements, as well as your balances, and immediately report any problems to your bank.
- If you are involved in a confrontation and the attacker is armed and demands your money or valuables, give it to them. Do not resist. Your property may be recovered later or replaced.
- What are the advantages of using the ATM to make deposits?
The ATM saves you time by avoiding long teller lines. The ATM is available for customer transactions 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Deposits made on or before the ATM cut-off time will get same-day credit. Deposit Image ATMs offer additional advantages, including:
- No envelopes or deposit slips are needed
- Availability of funds: Cut-off times on all Deposit Image ATMs are extended to 8 pm Local Time, except as noted on the signage posted on the face of all Deposit Image ATMs, and immediate availability is provided for cash deposits
- Check images, if requested, and cash summaries are printed on the receipt
- What is a Talking ATM?

Bank of America has the largest Talking ATM network. Talking ATMs deliver private, spoken instructions through a headset that plugs into an audio jack on the ATM. Created for people who are blind or visually impaired, they feature every capability found at any of our other ATMs, so you can:
- Make deposits
- Withdraw cash
- Transfer money between accounts
- Check account balances
- Complete some types of other transactions, at selected ATMs
- Where do I get ear buds or head phones for Talking ATMs?
You can use your own headphones, or Bank of America will provide free-of-charge ear buds or headphones for use at our Talking ATMs. To request yours, please visit your local banking center.
- How is the height of the ATM determined?
The height of the ATM is set to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Bank of America strives to make ATMs accessible for individuals who have disabilities. For more information, read about Accessible Banking.
- How do I set my language preference at the ATM?
You may set your language preference at the ATM once you enter your PIN. From the Select Transactions screen, select Other Options then Set Language. You will be able to choose one of the seven languages made available at the ATM, including:
- English
- Spanish
- Chinese
- French
- Korean
- Portuguese
- Russian
- What is a mini statement and how do I print one?
A mini statement is a transaction record that displays up to the last 5 debits and last 5 credits in most markets. To print a mini statement at the ATM, you must first enter your PIN. From the Select Transactions screen, select Other Options, Account Statements. You will have the option to print either full or mini statements for a fee. California offers a modified version of the mini statement. Mini statements are not available for customers in the states of Washington or Idaho.

Each check contains account and routing numbers that are encoded with magnetic ink. The ATM reads the magnetic ink and then reads the amount by using Optical Character Recognition. Customers are asked to confirm the amount of every deposit. The ATM is not able to read checks printed on machines that do not use magnetic ink, such as home printers.
- How do Deposit Image ATMs read the cash?
Bank of America obtains images of currency from the U.S. Treasury Department. Each bill is scanned using Optical Character Recognition and verified for authenticity.
- Will the images of my checks deposited at Deposit Image ATMs be available through Online Banking?
Yes, images of deposited checks are available through Online Banking except in Washington State and Idaho.
- How many accounts can I link to my Debit Card or ATM Card?
The number of checking, savings, credit card or line of credit accounts linked to each debit card or ATM card may depend on the type of account(s) you have. Please visit your local banking center or contact us at 1.800.432.1000 to determine the exact number, and to link and unlink your accounts. The linked account feature is not available for customers domiciled in Washington and Idaho.
- Where can I find more details about offers or information seen at the ATM?

- When are the funds from my cash deposit made available at a Deposit Image ATM?
Cash deposits made on a business day by 8 pm will be available immediately. Exceptions apply. See your account agreement.
- When are check deposits credited to my account?
Check deposits made on a business day by 8 pm will post on the same day. Exceptions apply. See your account agreement.
- Can I deposit foreign checks or foreign currency into my Bank of America account at an ATM?
We do not accept foreign checks or foreign currency at the ATMs at this time. You may visit a banking center to exchange the foreign currency for U.S. Dollars, then make your deposit.For more information about depositing foreign checks, visit your local banking center.
- How do I split the money from my deposit into multiple accounts?
You will need to deposit all of your funds into one of your accounts and then transfer the amounts to the other linked accounts. Making a transfer in Online Banking is simple and fast.
- What do I do if the deposit I made does not match my receipt?
Please report any discrepancies in your account by contacting customer service
- What do I do if I do not get a receipt for my deposit?
ATM receipts cannot be reprinted. Please sign in to Online Banking or contact us to review your account activity.
- Can I deposit coins at the ATM?
You may not deposit coins at the ATM. Please take coin deposits into a local banking center.
- Is it possible to print a receipt without the image of the check?
- Yes, you can select the option to receive a summary receipt without an image at Deposit Image ATMs.
- Why doesn't the ATM accept all of my cash?
The ATM reads the images of the bills and compares them to images provided by the U.S. Treasury Department. If a bill is worn, folded or has extraneous marks on it, its image will not match the images provided by the U.S. Treasure Department and it will be rejected.
- Why doesn't the ATM accept all of my checks?
The most common reason is that the account and routing number has not been encoded with magnetic ink. The ATM is not able to read checks printed on machines that do not use magnetic ink, such as home printers.
- How many checks can I deposit at one time?
Deposit Image ATMs accept one check at a time. Multi-Check ATMs accept up to 10 checks at a time. The total number of checks accepted at an ATM is unlimited.
- How many bills can I deposit at one time?
At our new Deposit Image ATMs, you can insert 40 bills at one time. If you have more than 40 bills, select Add More Cash and continue making deposits until you complete your transaction.
- What is the maximum amount of money I can withdraw from an ATM?
A maximum of 40 bills can be dispensed at one time from the ATM. There may also be limits based on account type and availability of funds. All 3 factors are considered when determining how much cash can be withdrawn from an ATM.
- How do I increase or decrease the amount I can withdraw at an ATM?
You may increase or decrease the amount you can withdraw at an ATM in the following ways:
- Sign in to Online Banking, go to the Customer Service tab and follow the online instructions.
- Contact Customer Service
- Visit a banking center
Note: This functionality is not available in Washington and Idaho.
- What is the difference between Fast Cash and Withdrawal?
Fast Cash enables you to designate an amount that you consistently withdraw in advance of your transaction. Once you enter your PIN and select Fast Cash you will receive the amount previously designated. This saves you time if you frequently withdraw the same amount.
Withdrawal allows you to enter the specific amount of funds you choose to remove from your account.
- How do I set/change my Fast Cash preferences?
You may set or change your Fast Cash preferences at the ATM after entering your PIN. From the Select Transactions screen, select Other Options, then Set Fast Cash Preferences and designate the amount you want to assign to Fast Cash.
- How do I transfer funds at an ATM?
Accounts must be linked to your Debit Card or ATM Card in order to make transfers between accounts at the ATM. Select Transfer Funds from the Transaction screen and follow the screen prompts.
- Why can't I pay my Bank of America mortgage at the Deposit Image ATMs?
This feature is no longer available at the ATM, but you still have several options for making payments to your mortgage:
- Sign in to Online Banking. You can use optional Bill Pay to pay your bills.
- Visit a local banking center
- Contact us to make a payment over the phone
- What determines when my funds will be made available?
Banks are governed by federal regulations surrounding the availability of funds, and Bank of America makes every effort possible to make funds available as quickly as possible to our customers. The Bank of America's policy looks at different criteria, such as type of deposit, deposit amount and customer relationship.
- What types of deposits will be made available on the next day?
The following types of deposited funds must be made available on the first business day following the banking day of deposit:
- Cashier's checks
- Certified checks
- Federal Reserve Bank checks
- Federal Home Loan Bank checks
- Official checks
- On-us checks (checks drawn on Bank of America)
- State or local government checks (if deposited in issuing state)
- Teller checks
- Travelers cheques
- Up to $100 of aggregate deposit of checks not already subject to next day availability
- U.S. Postal Service money orders
- U.S. Treasury checks
Note: Private money orders such as those available at convenience stores and other non-bank outlets are subject to the same holds as checks or drafts.
- What types of deposits will be made available on the same day?
The following types of deposited funds receive same day availability, including interstate deposits:
- Cash
- ACH
- Wires
Cut-off times apply for covering items during nightly processing.
- What should I do if I plan to travel internationally and use my ATM or Debit Card?
To prevent an interruption in ATM or Debit Card access you must call the telephone number on the back of your card to have an agent place a travel flag on your account. Your ATM Card or Debit Card must have a primary checking account linked to it in order to have no interruption in service while traveling internationally.
Once the travel flag has been placed, if you encounter any issues, please contact us toll free at 1.877.833.5617 or internationally by calling collect 1.602.597.2395.

- Can I use my Debit Card or ATM Card in a foreign country?
Yes, today ATMs are available worldwide. The two largest networks are the MasterCard/Cirrus and Visa/Plus networks which have over 1.7 million ATMs worldwide in over 100 countries. Three important considerations when using foreign ATMs:
1. Some foreign ATMs are only available during normal business hours
2. Many foreign ATMs offer instruction in English, but not all of them
3. Your PIN number must be 4 digits. Some ATMs do not accept PINs longer than 4 digits
- What accounts will I have access to when using a foreign ATM?
Most foreign ATMs will only give you access to your primary checking account.
- Is it possible to increase my limit on my ATM prior to going on my trip?
You may increase or decrease the amount you can withdraw at an ATM in the following ways:
- Sign in to Online Banking, go to the Customer Service tab and follow the online instructions.

- How is cash dispensed from ATMs in foreign countries?
Cash in foreign countries is dispensed in the local currency and debited from your account in dollars.
- What happens if I am unable to use my Debit Card or ATM Card at a foreign ATM?
If you are unable to use a foreign ATM, you may be able to use your Debit Card or ATM Card to withdraw funds at a local bank.
- What is the Global ATM Alliance?
Bank of America is a member of the Global ATM Alliance. The Global ATM Alliance is a group of financial institutions that have created the world's first international ATM Alliance.
Use your Debit Card or ATM card within the Global ATM Alliance in the countries shown with no ATM operator fees or Non-Bank of America International ATM Fee. International Transaction Fees of 1% for converting your currency may apply. Some members may have locations in countries other than the country listed in the coverage area. - What are the fees for using a Debit Card or ATM Card in a foreign country?
Withdrawals, transfers, payments and balance inquiries made at ATMs in foreign countries outside the Global ATM Alliance, China Construction Bank, or Banco Santander will be charged a $5 Non-Bank of America International ATM fee.
In addition, an International Transaction Fee may be charged for ATM Card and Debit Card transactions made for ATM cash withdrawals in currency other than U.S. dollars. The International Transaction Fee will be 1% of the U.S. dollar amount for each converted ATM cash withdrawal. This International Transaction Fee will appear as a separate item on your banking statement for each international transaction.
- How do I calculate the exchange rate for a foreign currency?
Bank of America provides exchange rates for foreign currency online.
- Should I buy travelers checks to travel internationally?
Foreign currency travelers cheques provide you with security. They are backed by American Express®, and if are lost or stolen, they can usually be refunded within 24 hours. By buying them in advance you can save money by locking the exchange rate before you embark on your trip.
- Why should I get foreign currency before I leave?
Many travelers find it necessary to have local currency immediately upon arrival for tips, taxis, and other miscellaneous expenditures. It's a good idea to have some cash in foreign currency on hand for immediate expenses. Some airports and train stations do not have foreign exchange offices and if they do, they may have limited hours of operation and may charge high rates for the exchange.
- How can I buy foreign currency or foreign currency traveler's checks?
Bank of America customers can order foreign currency and purchase foreign travelers checks online or by phone.
- What do I do with unused foreign currency and/or travelers checks?
Unused foreign currency can only be exchanged at a banking center.
- Where can I find out information about the safety of traveling to a foreign country?
The U.S. State Department provides country specific information including travel warnings, restrictions and public announcements issued by the U.S. government to its citizens.
- What are some tips for using an ATM in foreign countries?
Atms can be used to get foreign currency while traveling and can save you money when compared to buying currency at exchange rate booths. Despite the advantages, you need to be prepared for special circumstances that can arise when using an international ATM. Below are a few tips to get you squared away:
- Check the network: Check to see what network your card is in. Cards in the Cirrus and Maestro networks often feature ATMs with easy-to-read instructions in English. Bank of America belongs to the Global ATM Alliance.
- Research the country: There are some countries where ATM transactions are blocked. Please research the country to verify whether you will be able to use your Debit Card or ATM card.
- Understand the types of fees charged: Fees may be incurred for using the ATM and there is also a currency conversion fee. It is usually better to use larger transactions than multiple smaller ones.
- Make sure your PIN is valid: Many countries only allow 4-digit PINs, so you may need to get a new PIN before you start your trip if your current PIN is longer. You may use a Bank of America ATM to change your PIN.
- Have a backup plan: Have an alternative means of making purchase, such as using foreign currency, traveler's cheques or a credit card.
- Not all foreign ATMs offer instructions in English.
- Some ATMs limit your access to a primary checking account; therefore, ATM cards with only a savings account my not work at all locations.
- If you are unable to use a foreign ATM, you may be able to use your ATM card or Debit Card to withdraw funds at a local bank.
- What is Photo Security and is it available on debit cards and ATM cards?
Photo Security is an optional feature providing added security to Bank of America debit cards. The customer's own photo is permanently placed on the front to assure the cardholder's identity. Photo Security debit cards are available for any checking account customer, including non-resident or resident aliens without a Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number (not available in WA or ID until October 14, 2011).
Photo Security is not available on ATM cards, which rely on a Personal Identification Number or PIN so a photo is not necessary. Photo Security is available with Bank of America Visa Signature®, Bank of America Platinum Plus® Visa®, Bank of America Gold Visa, and select WorldPoints® Visa credit cards.

- What are some safety tips for using a Debit Card or ATM Card?
- Treat your card like cash and keep it in a safe place
- Keep your personal identification number, or PIN, a secret.
- Do not disclose card information over the phone to anyone. No one needs to know your PIN, not even your financial institution.
- Never disclose information about your card in response to an unsolicited email or request.
- Make certain your Internet shopping sites are secure.
- Protect your card's magnetic stripe. Do not expose your card's magnetic stripe to magnetic objects.
- Report a lost or stolen card immediately.
- Carefully review your account statements.
- How much will I be charged to print a statement at an ATM?
The fee for ATM Mini Statements is $1.00 each and $3.00 for each ATM Full Statement.

- Who do I contact if my transaction did not successfully complete at the ATM?
